Pegasus Workplace staff are highly trained and certified in DOT and non-DOT testing procedures, and adhere to strict collection protocols in order to ensure the validity of each specimen tested. By utilizing several different laboratories and modalities, including POCT (express) results, we are able to offer customized testing panels for a complete range of substances.

We understand that many workplace drug and alcohol testing needs are time-sensitive, and can accommodate testing appointments on short notice at our clinic in Victoria, BC.

Pre-Employment Testing

Pre-Employment Testing is conducted if workplace policy dictates that an employee must submit to testing as a condition of securing a safety-sensitive position.

Pre-Access Testing

Pre-Access Testing is done to gain access to a worksite. Requirements are determined by the owner of the project, and may vary depending on the site.

Reasonable Cause Testing

Reasonable Cause Testing is warranted if an employee is exhibiting unusual behaviours that are consistent with being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while at work.

Post-Incident Testing

Post-Incident/Post-Accident Testing is conducted immediately following a critical workplace incident such as an accident or unexplained equipment malfunction.

Random Testing

Random testing for employees whom have consented to participate in unannounced testing for drugs and/or alcohol as part of a consent agreement with their employer.

TYPES OF BIOLOGICAL TESTING

  • Point-of-care tests (POCT) are collected under Chain of Custody protocol using Health Canada-approved testing devices, and provide an immediate result with verified consent documentation. Non-negative samples are sent for confirmatory testing at a certified laboratory.

  • Breath alcohol testing measures the current level of intoxication, and is conducted using an evidential breath test device by trained and certified Breath Alcohol Technicians.

  • Laboratory-based testing for urine and oral fluid can include alcohol, the most common drugs of abuse and, if needed, a variety of less common illicit and pharmaceutical substances. Pegasus utilizes SAMHSA-certified laboratories for urine and oral fluid testing, and all results are reviewed by a certified Medical Review Officer.
